Annika has been busy with her track meets. She has run about 5-6 meets and picked up right where she left off last season.
Her specialty is the 1500M and 800M runs.
Here she is at the local Tustin Youth meet where she broke 3:00 in the 800M for the first time. She has since consistently dropped her times to 2:48 in the 800M and a 5:43 in the 1500M.

We went up to the Bay Area over spring Break and visited my parents and Abhijit and family.

Annika just turned 11 and for her party, she went to Sky High which is a trampoline “park”. You have to see it to believe it – basically a large warehouse with hundreds of trampolines filled with lots of jumping kids!

We went to India over the Christmas break to visit Anjali’s parents in Pune and my extended family in Nagpur.
Anjali’s parents had their 50th anniversary. Here is Anjali with her parents in the middle and her brother on the right. In the front and back row are her cousins.

On most days, we did our shopping trips and visits in a scooter rickshaw.
We did a side trip to Nagpur which is about a two hour flight from Pune.
We visited my uncles and cousins there.
My cousin Shirish (on the left in the photo above) took us to a wildlife sanctuary outside of Pune.
Here are some pictures from the Pench Tiger Sanctuary. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any tigers but lots of other big game including sambars, horned deer, antelopes and all kinds of monkeys!
On Christmas Day, we went out for Chinese food at Mainland China in Pune. Probably the best Chinese food in India! Christmas Day in India is like any other day there.
On our last day in Pune, Anjali was lucky enough to catch her 30th year high school reunion at St. Joseph’s. Here she is with her friends.

This morning, we drove down to Crystal Cove Beach and took some family self portrait pictures. The weather cooperated and the lighting was pretty perfect.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we drove up to the Bay Area to visit my parents and also Abhijit and family.

The kids took the day off from school to celebrate Diwali. Here are Annika, Mira and Harsheta spending the afternoon in our backyard doing rangoli.

This weekend we went to Encinitas to see a rare ocean phenomena known as bioluminescence caused by a red tide.
By day, a red tide is unsightly and uninviting, with water the color of coffee. But at night, during this unusual phenomenon caused by a plankton bloom, the waves are a brilliant, almost neon blue. This wonderfully surreal scene has played out almost nightly along San Diego beaches for the last few weeks.
Here are a couple of cool pictures of what we saw. The waves were coming about every 30 seconds and we spent almost two hours watching.

Usain Bolt (the world’s fastest man) came to visit at the local college (Mt. Sac). Anjali took the kids to see him as he hosted a running clinic. Usain has a 9.58 second World record for the 100M along with a host of others. He spoke about his training regimen and complained about the heat in So Cal! Isn’t he from Jamaica?

Nikhil has started cross country season and is running for his high school team. Here are some pictures from his first two meets.
Nikhil got his groove back in the second race, improving by 1 1/2 minutes to an 18:52 in the 3 mile race.
There were 400 Freshman kids in this race from as far away as San Diego and Las Vegas!

Last weekend I had my UCLA MBA reunion with my fellow study group. Several of them flew in from all corners of the world.
On Saturday, we went on a cruise to Catalina aboard the USS Lane Victory. This is an old WWII era cargo ship that has been restored and sails just three times a year.

On Sunday, we went to brunch in Laguna beach. Two of the other guys joined us… Paul on the right in aqua and Steve with the hat.
We hit the beach for a while and then hit the Festival of Arts and the Pageant of the Masters.
